Dysregulation: Navigating an Altered State
A Framework of Awakening, Change, and Embrace
The Foundation of Our Advocacy
This course was created to serve as a catalyst for a fundamental shift in how we perceive and respond to neurodivergent distress. For too long, the prevailing narrative has been one of deficit and management, where the individual is expected to adapt to a world that refuses to acknowledge their biological reality. This programme is not a handbook for compliance, but rather a journey of awakening to the physiological truth of the altered state.
We move away from the traditional concepts of discipline and correction, which often serve only to exacerbate the very crises they seek to solve. By grounding our practice in the science of the nervous system and the principles of the Dynamic Development Plan, we begin to see dysregulation as a cry for safety rather than a breach of conduct.
A Big Ask
We acknowledge that we are asking parents, staff, and other professionals to change not just their thinking and behaviour, but the very systems that create dysregulation. This is a significant challenge, as it requires the dismantling of established norms and the rejection of a punitive lens that has dominated educational and professional settings for generations.
By taking forward your new knowledge and absorbing the philosophy in Dysregulated – Navigating an Altered State, you are becoming the advocates for the change that is urgently needed. You are no longer observers of behaviour, you are guardians of regulation and architects of sanctuary.
Becoming the Catalyst
As you progress through the materials that follow, keep the individual at the centre of your focus. Every data point in the Sentinel portal and every adjustment in the DDP framework is an act of advocacy designed to protect the dignity and future of those we support.
The path from awakening to embrace is rigorous, but it is the only path that leads to genuine neurological safety and social justice.
“Accuracy in recording is the first act of protection.”
