Independent Application Task
Sentinel Sandbox: Practising the Shift
Instructions for Advocacy
To achieve your Level 2 Accreditation, you must demonstrate the ability to move beyond the surface of a behavioural incident and identify the biological reality beneath. This task requires you to perform the Sentinel Shift on three biased incident logs that are currently grounded in a deficit-based model.
Your rewrites must remove all assumptions of intent or moral failing. Instead, focus on observable clinical markers of the altered state, the cumulative Trigger Stack, and the specific failure of the environment to provide regulatory safety.
The “Disruption” Rewrite
Biased Record:
“The student was intentionally disruptive during the assembly, shouting out and refusing to leave when asked, showing a total lack of respect for staff and peers.”
The “Aggression” Rewrite
Biased Record:
“The pupil became aggressive and began moving furniture after being told they could not use their iPad, necessitating a staff intervention to manage their behaviour.”
The “Non-Compliant” Rewrite
Biased Record:
“The individual was non-compliant during the transition to literacy, ignoring three direct instructions to begin their work and appearing lazy.”
Your entries will be saved to your Level 2 Portfolio for review.
