Dynamic Development Plan: Case Study Analysis Template

This template is a blueprint for deconstructing a client’s profile, identifying the coaching challenge, and outlining a neuro-affirming impact.

1. Client Profile

Purpose: To provide a holistic, person-centered view of the client. Move beyond a list of challenges to identify who they are as an individual.

Guidance: Include their profession or role, a brief description of their personality, their primary goal or concern, and how their neurodivergence is currently impacting them. Frame their neurodivergent traits as both strengths and potential hurdles.

2. The Coaching Challenge

Purpose: To clearly articulate the central problem that needs to be addressed in the coaching relationship. This is the “what” of the situation.

Guidance: Go beyond the surface-level issue. For example, the challenge isn’t just “missed deadlines,” but the underlying executive function and time-perception difficulties that cause them. Identify the core conflict (e.g., a neurodivergent communication style clashing with neurotypical workplace expectations).

3. Neurodivergent Traits

Purpose: To connect the client’s behaviour and challenges to their specific neurodivergent traits. This section is an exercise in understanding, not pathologising.

Guidance: Categorise the traits for clarity and structure. Use a strengths-based, neuro-affirming lens.

Cognitive & Processing
  • How does their brain work? (e.g., strong attention to detail, visual thinking, difficulty with executive function).
Sensory
  • How do they experience the world? (e.g., auditory processing differences, sensory sensitivity to light or sound).
Communication & Social
  • How do they interact? (e.g., direct communication style, masking behaviours, social anxiety).
Emotional & Behavioural
  • How do they experience emotions? (e.g., rejection sensitivity, intense emotional responses, need for routine).
4. The Neurocoach’s Impact

Purpose: To outline the strategic, neuro-affirming coaching approach. This is the “how” of the solution and the most critical part of the analysis.

Guidance: Describe the coach’s impact in three key stages.

Initial Approach
  • How did the coach frame the situation? Did they use Unconditional Positive Regard to create a safe space? Did they start by identifying a strength or a “superpower”?
Coaching Strategy
  • What specific techniques or tools were used? (e.g., ‘What’ and ‘How’ questions, visual timers, mind-mapping tools, self-advocacy scripts).
Outcome & Reframe
  • What was the result of the coaching? How did the client’s self-perception change? Was the challenge reframed from a weakness to a manageable aspect of their neurotype? The outcome should show an individual being empowered.
